If a Woodpecker Could Peck Wood….

This downy woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) decided to forgo the head-banging route and instead gleaned a meal by picking insects directly off leaves and branches. Much easier and no headache. Photographs were made at the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on Cape Cod.
